ALBERT B. RATNER
Since 1995, Mr. Ratner has been Co-Chairman of the Board of Forest City Enterprises, a nationwide developer of major real estate projects, which today owns more than $4.5 billion of completed properties and is active in 20 states and the District of Columbia. Forest City's signature Cleveland project, Tower City Center, is indicative of their philosophy of developing projects that seek to revitalize urban centers, thereby improving quality of life. Mr. Ratner joined Forest City in 1951 and in 1960 was named Secretary of the company. In 1968 he became Executive Vice President, was appointed President and CEO in 1974 and in 1993, was named Vice Chairman of the Board, also remaining as CEO of the company.
Mr. Ratner is a director of RPM, a former member of the Executive Committee of the National Realty Committee, and the past Chairman of the Executive Committee of the State of Ohio Operations Improvement Task Force. In 1988, he was co-recipient of the AGORA Award from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for "Outstanding Contributions to the Revitalization of the American Downtown Marketplace." He also has received the Edward M. Baker Young Leadership Award, Downtown Cleveland Recognition Award, Builders Magazine 20th Gold Nugget Award, Harvard Business Club of Cleveland's Business Statesman of the Year Award, CEO of the Year Award from Financial World Magazine, and the Business Hall of Fame of Cleveland Award.
Mr. Ratner's civic activities include the boards of trustees of the Greater Cleveland Growth Association, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and Museum, and the Cleveland Initiative for Education. He is also a member of the Board of Governors of the Henry M. Jackson Foundation.
Mr. Ratner's deep involvement in the Jewish community includes Life Trustee of the Cleveland Jewish Community Federation, a board member of the United Jewish Communities, a member the American Jewish Committee's President's Cabinet, and a member of the Council of Trustees of the Masorti Foundation for Conservative Judaism in Israel. In 1987, he was presented the Charles Eisenman Award by the Jewish Community Federation of Cleveland for "outstanding contributions to the social and civic betterment of our community and its people."
Mr. Ratner received his B.S. degree in Forestry from Michigan State University and is a member of its John A. Hannah Society. In 1990, he was presented with an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Long Island University and in 1992, was given an honorary Doctor of Engineering degree from Polytechnic University in Brooklyn, N.Y.
